Attended the concert for the Abruzzo Earthquake Appeal at the Italo-Australian Club yesterday (Sun). A brilliant afternoon’s entertainment and a heap of money raised for the Appeal.

My highlight had to be the Katika Drums African Rythms with most of the audience standing and doing various versions of the ‘Mandella Shuffle’.

ACT’s contribution to the Appeal is now likely to be more than $40,000 with a national target of more than $2 million, which the Federal Government has promised to match dollar for dollar.

[ED – Aha! It now becomes clear why John Hargreaves has announced the ACT is tipping in $10,000 of territory money to the appeal]

Why is Hargreaves putting in $10,000 of our money to a cause in a foreign country? I don’t recall any other country giving us money after the Newcastle earthquake. In fact I distinctly remember the mayor of Newcastle having to pay for advertising on TV here begging for donations.
