The ABC have the news that, in a further prostitution of the budget process as the spinners turn, an extra $12 million for the National Capital Authority is coming tonight, spread over 4 years, and predicated on “simplifying” planning controls on national land.
Regional Australia Minister Simon Crean says the NCA must resolve confusion about its role, reduce duplication with the ACT Government, and recognise the ACT Government’s role in planning for the city.
The NCA must also have a board member nominated by the ACT Government.
NCA chief executive Gary Rake has welcomed the funding.
He says the minister’s demand to see changes, particularly around clarifying the NCA’s role, will be a top priority.
