Ah Sauvignon Blanc! It reminds me of Summer down the South coast NSW, having lunch next to the Clyde river. Or driving from Bermagui to Tathra, (one the best drives on the coast) along the way stopping into to buy some pristine oysters from Nelson lakes at Mimosa Rocks then stopping at one Bermagui’s famous beaches and having a picnic by the beach with your glass of Sauvignon Blanc…. Dreams!!! Meanwhile reality kicks in and today was one of the coldest days in Canberra and Perisher got 50cm of snow last night! Summer is a distant memory from today, but Sauvignon Blanc is still the Queen of white wine.

Sauvignon Blanc is still the number one selling white wine in Australia and has taking Australia by storm over the past 10 years knocking Chardonnay of its pedestal. It doesn’t seem to matter if its 38c or minus 6c outside, Sauvignon Blanc still sells. Cougar Juice as its commonly called now! And after what I see getting consumed on daily basis, there is plenty of Cougar juice getting drunk!
On a recent trip to the Adelaide hills in South Australia I came across one of the best producers of Australian Sauvignon Blanc, Longview Vineyard. Longview is a family owned vineyard in Macclesfield in the Adelaide hills, its first vintage was 2001.

The Saturno family are now proud owners of the vineyard and are producing some of the best wines from the hills. The 2013 Longview Whippet Sauvignon Blanc that im drinking today is an amazing example of cool climate Sauvignon Blanc. It smells of Asparagus and citrus and the taste is incredibly mouth filling with the right amount of Acid. It goes perfect with the Zucchini flowers that im having for lunch today.

Its no wonder this wine took out a Gold medal at the Royal Adelaide wine show.

Longview should be on your list of places to visit in the Adelaide Hills on your next trip to South Australia, Peter and Mark Saturno welcome you like you are family.

Longview wines can be found in all good restaurants and bottle shops.
