- ACT Policing is investigating the burglary of an art gallery and theft of two paintings by artist David Boyd in Nicholls.
The paintings, of significant value, were stolen sometime between 8pm on Sunday (July 5) and 10.20am today (Monday, July 6) when offender(s) broke into the back room of the Aarwun Gallery on O’Hanlon Place. Other paintings of lesser value were left behind and no other part of the gallery was disturbed.
One of the works titled Fun and Games at Cockatoo Watering Hole is an oil-on-board painting, 37cm x 30cm in size.
The other work titled Two Children and Three Sunflowers is an oil painting, 37cm x 32cm in size.
AFP Forensic Services has attended the scene.
The stolen works are distinctive and easily recognised. Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen suspicious persons or activity in the O’Hanlon Place, Nicholls, area last night to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
Police would also like to remind the community that receiving stolen property is a serious criminal offence. Anyone offered these paintings for sale should contact police on 13 14 44 or via Crime Stoppers where information can be provided anonymously.

2. Kaleen petrol station knocked over:
- ACT Policing is investigating an aggravated robbery which occurred at the Caltex service station in Kaleen Tuesday, July 7.
Around 6.15am two men entered the service station on Maribyrnong Avenue. One produced a knife and threatened the staff member. The men then removed the cash from the register and some cigarettes before leaving on foot in a westerly direction towards Alberga Street.
One of the offenders is described as 18 to 20 years old, 5’11”(180cms) tall, with short reddish-blonde hair and was wearing a black hooded fleece jacket, black tracksuit pants with three white strips down the side, white runners and was holding a white and black bandana.
The second offender is described as being of Aboriginal or Islander appearance, 18 to 20 years old, 5’7” (170cms) tall, with dark hair and was wearing a red hooded jumper under a black hooded jacket, dark blue tracksuit pants and was using a white t-shirt to cover his face.
Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen suspicious persons or activity around the Caltex service station on Maribyrnong Avenue this morning to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
In particular police would like to talk to a man driving a blue sedan who arrived at the service station as the offenders were leaving.
