I noticed a big ad in the Canberra Times on the weekend that brought a smile to my car loving heart. For a limited period, starting from 14 November, Canberrans will be able to wash their cars at home. Yay for those of us who like shiny metal bits.
The general exemption runs from 14–29 November and also allows homeowners to clean their windows and so on.
Usual sensible water use caveats apply, such as the use of trigger hoses, buckets etc. ACTEW requests that cars are washed on a lawn or other porous surface.

Further to that is good news for those who like to water their gardens. Similar to last year a general exemption will allow weekend watering from Saturday 19 December 2009 to Sunday 31 January 2010 inclusive.
People living at addresses with an EVEN street number can sprinkle on Saturdays; and
People living at addresses with an ODD street number can sprinkle on Sundays.
It is worth noting the sprinkler/irrigation system exemption applies only between the hours of 7pm-10pm. At all other times usual Stage 3 restriction apply.

They might want to rethink the decision, the past two days driving past the electronic signs showed water usage of 150kl, way in excess of the 120kl target. 40% here we come lol
I loved watching the news footage from the house on the hill today with a politician almost tripping over the hose (still left out and a freshly watered lawn in the background) to give an interview.
…and the residents of West Macgregor who get a $1000 prize for the best front lawn over summer. Personally, I feel that’s a pirze for who can steal the most water off your neighbour.
