Transport

When will people learn?

That if you are going to do something stupid and illegal, then don’t take footage of it.
As seen by this young bloke who loves his car so much that he just has to show everyone how fast he can drive on Canberras roads.

His BMW on Commonwealth Ave

      More footage below

      On Northbourne Ave

          On Belconnen Way

              Lastly, showing us the car.

Even the courtesy of displaying his registration.. The owner of a car with the rego “CHONG” displayed on a brand new beemer isn’t going to be hard to track down. Even the footage if it didn’t have the rego you could deduct well enough that he lives in one of the newest suburbs in Canberra, take a pick of roughly 3 that are developed to the stage seen in the video. I’m sure he’ll be getting a visit in the next few days once somebody directs the police to it.

Times like these that you would enjoy a car crushing law being introduced.. The look on the driver’s face would be good to see.

Hahaha, it’s his real plate; I’ve seen this kid driving around the ANU.

He’s definitely acting like a stupid little bastard, but if that actually is Northbourne (my skim through the video never shows anything but the speedo), then he really IS a stupid little bastard. The other two aren’t in the middle of housing areas and prone to police presence.

I’ve seen this wanker around, he likes to fly up & down roads on the northside alot.

I love how on his Youtube page he doesn’t allow comments as he knows what he will get.

From memory I’ve seen this car pull into a house in Franklin

Even if he claims that the first videos can’t be linked to his car, he should at least be picked up for the burnout and dangerous driving around suburbia.

If I bought such a nice, expensive BMW, I would fully expect it to be able to do those speeds. No need to prove it to the police with video.

I know a local guy who has a V8 similar to mine, but with at least 150hp more through various performance mods. Around town he drives like a complete Grandma, but at Wakefield Park, the porsches struggle to keep up.

Putting up a video of a fast lap at the track impresses me a lot more than some tosser nailing the throttle on a public road.

Wakefield probably wouldnt suit him, as from what Ive heard they ensure both car and driver are capable of driving safely and from looking at this video the latter leaves him a bit out of luck. Not to mention, he’s probably spent so much money on his car he probably cant afford to goto somewhere legal to drive.

I’ll certainly be having some choice words with him if I see him. This person is a perfect example of why 17-25 year olds have the highest number of deaths on the road per capita. He clearly has absolutely NO concept of how dangerous his driving is at the speed limit, let alone 3.5 times over the speed limit. He also clearly has absolutely no regard for his safety, let alone the safety of others. Naturally if someone were to put forward these facts to him, he would simply palm them off as he’ll consider himself a good driver who’s never yet had a crash…

Perhaps, if a person under the age of 25 is caught driving at twice the speed limit on more than two occasions, their licence should be revoked until they turn 25? Hopefully by that stage they’ll have developed more suitable self preservation skills required for the task of driving.

I have saved a copy of these videos, saved his username, and have also called the police. I’ll be burning a copy and dropping into the police station next door in the next half hour. Fingers crossed this idiot is put in front of a judge who’s able to tear strips off him.

related to this, but where is the deterrent for this type of behaviour???there is just no real punishment for this type of thing. watching ‘the force’ the other day, with the girl who couldnt even stand she was that drunk caught driving. she lost her license for 6 months and a fine. whoop de doo. that is not a deterrent. What would this guy get, a slap on the wrist, a fine he (or his ‘vocation’ or parents) can clearly afford? its bullshit.

if we are going to be serious about this, there needs to be tougher penalties. cube his car, take away his license for 5 years, something other than what we have.

                    @sloppery

Simply put, the perceived risk associated with driving at 210km/h on an urban public road cannot be justified in ANY circumstance, while the road is actually open to the public.

While I was an Ambulance Officer, the fastest I ever traveled was 160km/h on an empty rural highway whilst under Police escort. Without a police escort 30-40km/h over the limit was the max I’d ever travel under lights and siren.

Other road users are simply not expecting a vehicle to approach them at such high speeds.

Before you go justifying high speed with “but in Germany, but in Austria, but in Europe…” road users in Europe are accustomed to high speeds on motorways, they are trained accordingly. Their motorways are also designed and maintained according to extremely strict universal standards, unlike Canberran roads where the ACT GovCo has trouble maintaining the simplest of lane markings.

Next time you get behind the wheel of a car, think to yourself before you drive off, that you as a person in control of a motor vehicle, are entirely capable of making a mistake that is going to claim the life of an innocent party, or cause them to become paralyzed for the next 50+ years. Or maybe end up orphaning or killing some children. Imagine being responsible for a child growing up without their parents because you didn’t think driving excessively fast (for no other reason than having a bit of fun) was going to hurt anyone? All are possible scenarios as a result of a car crash that occurs at any speed, let alone one that occurs at 3.5 times the speed limit. That fact should scare the shit out of you… and IMHO if it doesn’t, you should not be allowed anywhere near a car, ever.

Interesting to note that some people on here condemning his behaviour also call for faster limits in other threads… And therein lies the problem… What is fast enough for one/some won’t be for others… People who think some roads should have higher speed limits will still be considered too slow for morons like this… Which is why we all need to stick to current limits and quit our moaning…

Is that how it works? I might go around shooting a gun. As long as no one gets hurt, that’s okay.

I wonder if Mummy knows he’s driving her car around like this?

Yep: and you’re a moron too.

He’s an accident waiting to happen.

Who could it have hurt? The driver, other road users, pedestrians, the emergency services personnel who would have had to clean up the mess (human) and tell the families etc etc etc.
It’s all about consequences – something that so many people simply do not think out. You may be in “total control” but you have absolutely no control over anything else.
