Superb local artist ex de medici (Midnight Oil portrait in the NPG) has an exhibition on show at the War Memorial from 3 September, about a stint with soldiers in the Solomon Islands.
An item in the Australian says that, even though a major celebrity in the art world, she refuses to be photographed, or reveal her old name.
Does anyone know why she won’t be photographed, or she doesn’t like her old name for feminist/political reasons, or just because it’s ornery? (nb Yahoo Serious’s abandoned name is Craig Pead). Or is it because bikies are after her? (she is a tattooist as well)

Yet she refuses to be photographed…?

Maybe because she has lead a very interesting life and wants her privacy respected.
I wish that I could get her to do another tattoo on me as she is the best in Australia, thats right, I said that she is the best tattooist in Australia and you would be hard pressed to prove me wrong as anyone who went there or got some ink done by her would back me up on this.
Yeah I would love some ink from ex as well. Maybe we need to commit our flesh after we die…
What business is it of anyone what their “old” name used to be? They have a name, you use it.
As for retaining a reasonable degree of privacy, the attitude of certain gangs of people towards body artists who are not under their idea of “protection” is well-known. Which is why I go to Sydney for tattoos.

Settle down trix! No-one is spoiling for a fight here. Names are generally a public record thing; most well known artists and authors who have nom de plumes also have their “real” names out there. No doubt medici has her reasons. It’s possible that her old name was ornery – I didn’t suggest that people write it down here. nb Yahoo Serious has always been very open about disliking his old name.
