Thanks to Buzzy for letting us know that Canberra’s low profile Member for Fraser, Andrew Leigh, is speaking at the Festival of Dangerous ideas on “Why Canberra is the best city in Australia”:

Since the publication of Robert Putnam’s Bowling Alone, the concept of social connectedness has been a vital tool for understanding how we live and the impact of social change. Andrew Leigh has trawled through all of the information we have about social capital in Australia and guess what? If you want to have a happy life, connected to your community, Canberra leads the way in every respect.

We hope there’s a transcript!

in case anyone was wondering, the transcript to this address is available at his blogsite:

Aaah no wonder he stared at me last week, when I said your not a reporter are you, I didn’t know who he was, a friend introduced me to him, she told me later he was my local member lol

What a dreadful thing, to participate in an event where the “dangerous idea” is that Canberra is a great place to live.

o noes, if he gets it right then everyone can just link to his speech when others come on and bash us… what’s a rioter to do? how can we stop him? who will think of the children??

Connected to your community? I didn’t know Canberrans actually communicated at all until I found this website.

I suppose hating each other is better than no communication at all.
