Just back from a great night at the Inannarama live CD recording.

I won’t hyperbolise. Much.

These women have so much guts. (I was going to use another word but I’m sure you get the drift.) Singing their own songs, made us laugh, made us cry, made as clap several layers of skin off our hands. And then threw on supper for good measure.

Song of the night for me was a joyous rendition of ‘I Got Keys’ about that moment you go from being itinerant nomad sleeping on couches and in shelters to a place you can call your own, even if it is rented.

Listen out for them around town and on radio. I was chatting to one choir member and she mentioned a gig for a Mental Health launch or MH week. I’ll post details here when available.

^^ I’m not involved with them, Granny. Craig Dawson is a mate of mine (and a superb singer/song-writer/musician, as is his wonderful wife, Simone). Craig got involved with the recording of their first album, along with a handful of other top musos I know from Canberra’s folk and blues scene. Craig’s playing guitar tonight for the choir.

And he is abolutely massive raps for the choir and reckons it will be a great night.

Me? I’m just a sucker for great music, choirs, community musical events and a damn good cause.

I think you’ve hit the nail there, Granny. Turning a negative, harnessing the energy and putting into something positive. It’s a familiar theme, but I’m up for another interpretation.

Wow! That is an amazing story – looking at those women and wondering what they have been through, but they have taken all that and made something so positive … pick yourself up, be strong. I still have a lump in my throat.

How did you get involved with Inanna?

Post Filthy’s, anyone looking for a totally different, but equally rewarding musical experience, this is on tonight.

Same plot as last night: I’ll be the stout man in black (though there could be a couple of those), though this time I think I’ll leave the RiotACT pin out of the ear!
