Green Square in Kingston is a simple thing. A small patch of green grass surrounded by some pubs, cafes, and restaurants.
So it is with some surprise that I read in the Canberra Times that our local government has managed to mess up such a simple premise.
- “The office of Chief Minister Jon Stanhope, who is the new Territory and Municipal Services Minister, said yesterday the ”refurbishment of Green Square is on hold while community feedback and options are assessed”.
”There’s a new minister who intends to take a personal interest in this. The minister says there is no timeframe for a decision,” a spokeswoman said.
When asked if the Government would in the meantime water the grass in Green Square, the spokeswoman said, ”The minister has not yet taken formal advice on the options or formed a view.””
Or they could turn the whole thing over to the traders and let them buy in the very small amount of water the place would use (or recycle their gray water for all I care).
