Hey guys.

I’m new to Riotact but I really need your help.

8 days ago a ferret named Jules went missing from Sid Barnes Cres in Gordon (right near the shops).

The chances of finding her alive are really really slim, I know that – but please if you see her, see anything that might help her be located please contact the Ferret Society of Canberra on 0428 7466 20 Her name is Jules.

She is a lovely sable (brown) ferret girl. She is very very small (approx 600g) and of lovely nature. She has a microchip.

We have contacted everyone we can possibly think of. You guys are my last hope. Please help!

Not knowing is just so terribly difficult!

Thanks all

Saskia

UPDATED: prhhccd has commented that Jules has been found:

Hey guys, you’re never going to believe this: Jules was found in Holder on Monday! She’s alive and well, only a bit shaken. Thank you all so much for your support and well wishes. We really appreciate it!
Leanne (the owner) wanted me to post this:
When you get a chance would you mind posting a thank you on RiotACT for me
please for all the good wishes, sensible questions and overall care for
Jussy’s safe return that people posted.

So thank you all, we were so overwhelmed that Jules got back ok. Really unexpected after two weeks!

Please remember that if you see a ferret walking the streets, it is someone’s pet (they cannot survive in the wild here for long), please pick it up and call the Ferret Society of Canberra. Thanks all!

By popular demand, here’s a picture of Jules:

Awesome ending – great news, and nice work RA!

cutest. photo. ever.

I always knew all the ferrets resided in Holder..

I am so grateful to him (that’s all I know, it was a guy). May good karma pursue him whereever he goes.

Well, good on the folk who found her for pursuing it and finding the owner. Good karma to them, I think.

she’s getting a lot of those on Sunday! Trust me!

That is kind of unbearable, prhhcd. Just hold her close and give her a big, long hug for me.

Granny, interestingly enough, Jules is the biological sister to one of the ferrets tortured to death where the sentencing has recently been. Cooch looked exactly like her, just a little bigger. I know both animals well, and yes, it is very very real for me and it has made me more fearful and has certainly attacked my sense of security in terms of protecting my little guys.

I think someone picked her up in the Gordon area and took her to holder, sadly they did not check for a chip, this could have saved a lot of anguish. I don’t know the whole story yet. I will find out on the weekend when I meet up with the owner.

You know the more I look at that sweet little face, the more I can’t bear to think of anybody hurting a little animal like her. It just makes it more real somehow.

Prhhcd, do we know if Jules travelled all the way from Gordon to Holdern, or was it just someone from Holder who found the Ferret?

she ate lots when she got home! And then snuggled with her brothter and sister.

That’s really good news, it’s always amazing when a lost animal is found and returned to its people. What are the chances? I figure she’s licking her chops becuase she’s either just eaten something nice, or is planning to!

Oh, Ari!

: )

Nah, but for some reason the thread a few months ago about the best massage in Canberra sprung to mind 😉

Did you get out on the wrong side of bed, Ari?

Thanks, prhhcd.

: )

That’s fantastic! I will do that.

Granny, The FSOC is genrally happy to participate in these sorts of programs. We hold regular events for kids at the ACT public Libraries (next one at Kippax on Jan 27). Contact the FSOC if your daughter’s school is interested.

Thanks for the link, prhhcd.

They look like they would make marvellous ‘pets as therapy’. We used to have people bring in various animals to my daughter’s special school … you know, dogs, rabbits, lizards, birds … for the children to meet.

Some of them were really interested in the animals, and others just couldn’t be ‘reached’.

yeah heaps of ferrets up for adoption right now.
In answer to your question Jim, like with all domesticated animals, people often make the wrong decision and cannot keep the animal or are irresponsible and let them breed, others are just found in the street and noone comes looking for them.
Ferrets make great pets but require a lot of work and are certainly not cheap! The ferret society of canberra has heaps of info on their website (as well as contact details). See http://www.ferretclub.org.au

Right! I shall initiate stage one of the ferret campaign. It’s the ‘please’ stage ….

*chuckle*

Where do they rescue the ferrets from?

Contact the Ferret Society, they have plenty of rescued Ferrets needing a good home at the moment.

Oh, that is so good!! I want a ferret!

: )

Thanks for that prhhcd. Jules is a cutie and I love a happy ending.

that’s so the attitude she had going too!

He is so cute. I’m really happy you got him back. 🙂

Haha, that reminds me of all those “Wazzup!” pictures.

John was nice enough to post above for us. Thanks John!

Or just post it onto the Ferret Society web page and link to it.

happy to post a photo. Any ideas how???

That’s fabulous news.

Photo of Jules please.

I heard johnboy stole it so he could jam it up his butt 😀

Wow, someone is distraught about their missing pet and you’re making butt jokes – aren’t you a cock head!

Good luck prhhcd finding your ferret, they are fairly tough litte critters, and hopefully no harm has come her.
Read this – hopefully it will give you hope: http://www.abc.net.au/stateline/act/content/2006/s2088008.htm

Hey guys, yes there is a ferret society of canberra – a very active one too! Sorahan and Larobina are behind bars as far as I know. They are planning an appeal though. I have been there throughout the whole case. Sadly, another guy involved “Stevo” has fled the state and has an arrest warrent out against him.
Anyways
Jules has a very sweet little face. She is about 20cm long I guess and will not bite generally. If someone should see her, please grab your mobile phone and ring the ferret society on 0428 7466 20. Then stay with her, talking to her, calling her. She will probably come to you, especially if you get down to her level. Food works well, but better to stay with her then go off to the kitchen to get some meat or cheese.
Thanks all for your kind words. I really appreciate it.

Ferrets like to hide and burrow into things – often digging holes on the underside of your couch to create their little hideaways. They prefer to sleep in dark and enclosed spaces, so if they come across a home they might end up in the garage, under the house or wherever else they can find a neat little space to curl up in.

Ferrets cant climb(they will try though). They are like meekats.

Chihuahuas love chicken necks, too. I have NO idea what they see in them, but there you go. They fiercely munch away, making awful noises, and see off anyone who might be going to take their chicken neck (as if).

I hope this little ferret is OK, I wonder where they go? Do they shack up in an old tree or roof of someone’s shed? Animals get confused and go off sometimes… one of our dogs spent the night on the airport runway after fleeing from a large dog monstering everyone.

Oh, I hope somebody finds her!!

if it’s the same jules – about 6-7 inches long, with a sweet little face.

i lost one of my sable female ferrets this time last year….very very sad. I door knocked and put flyers up. No luck.

Just how tiny is she, fox? Like six inches maybe?

because you’re smarter than the rest of us =D

if it’s the jules i remember, she is REALLY tiny! and no, you wouldn’t lose a finger if you picked her up.

if by chance someone does come across her you can gain her trust and/or coax her out by offering her a chicken neck. seriously. they love those things.

Why don’t they make those microchip thingies with GPS or transmitters or something? Why do I have to think of everything?

lol i didnt know there was a Ferret Society eather. mint =]

There’s a Ferret Society in Canberra? I’ve been living a lie!

tylersmayhem4:29 pm 17 Nov 08

…someone had to bring this up – are Thomas Sorahan and Adriano Larobina behind bars yet. I’d be knocking on their doors first.

Okay, lets say I lived in the vicinity (I don’t), but knew very little about ferrets, and their behaviours when outdoors.

Where would be the best place to look?
What do I do if I find him?
Should I try and coax her out of wherever she is hiding with a slice of ham, slice of cheese, or a dead mouse?
Can she be picked up without losing fingers\pints of blood?

I hope you find your little Jules.
