The Messenger Opening November 26!

3 December, 2008to6 December, 2008

Canberra Youth Theatre (CYT) is now selling ticket for its major production for 2008,

The Messenger adapted by Ross Mueller based on the award winning novel by Markus Zusak.

The hero of The Messenger is Ed Kennedy – a cab driving, card playing, directionless 19 year old. He lives in suburbia, shares coffee with his dog, the Doorman, and is in unrequited love with Audrey. One day he inadvertently stops a bank robbery… a few days later the first message arrives in his mailbox. Ed reluctantly fulfils the first message but then more messages arrive… The messages change his life as his view of himself, his family and friends alters. One mystery remains: who is sending him these clues, and why?

Set inside the authors’ mind we find ourselves in the depths of a suburban disaster, we are unknowingly passive, but as the clock ticks we all begin to wish for something more… The Messenger is a darkly humorous and thought provoking story that reminds us how difficult it is for some young people to find their place in the world. The Messenger is a timely narrative about engagement. In a climate of self-preservation and self-absorption this story provides hope. It is a story for our community, all communities.
