This afternoon (Tuesday 24 September) ACT Policing arrested a 23-year-old Deakin male following a 20-minute joy-ride from Majura to Deakin in a stolen scraper, which involved several traffic offences and property damage.
About 12.25pm ACT Policing Operations received reports of a 30-tonne yellow road scraper driving erratically along Northbourne Avenue in Braddon, proceeding through several red traffic lights and driving onto the medium strip.
ACT Policing continued to receive reports from the community as the driver proceeded south along Northbourne Avenue to the Deakin High School oval, where damage was caused to the grass oval.
About 12.50pm an ACT Policing Patrol team located and apprehended the driver of the scraper at Deakin High School. He was taken into police custody and conveyed to the Canberra Hospital for tests.

The 23-year-old Deakin male was conveyed to the ACT Watch House and charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent, furious/reckless/dangerous driving, property damage and possessing a drug of dependence. He will face the ACT Magistrates Court later this morning.
