Below is the list of hospitality venues winners of the AHA ACT Hospitality Awards for 2013, it is only slightly smaller than the list of hospitality venues that exist in the ACT.

What do you think readers? There are some I definitely agree with (Sage Restaurant for example), and a few I find quite confusing (Transit Bar) but mostly I just feel that there are a lot of categories.

Still well done to all the delicious restaurants who appear on this list:

An insider has recommended that these awards be treated with a HUGE grain of salt.

Hear that every year, yet the awards continue and various venues continue to seek the kudos. The awards are far from perfect but that’s life.

Grain of salt? Well duh they got peoples names wrong to start…

That is to be expected. Nominees are nominated, usually by others. No certified copies of birth certificates etc.

Whats your dog in this fight?

None. Majority of places at which I drink aren’t even AHA members and, as a Belco boy, you’d expect me to spend most of my time at places that aren’t on the list.

Seems to me these places nominate themselves.
I spent 3 days at the Hyatt recently. Accommodation was OK but the Promenade Cafe was awful,
and certainly not deserving of #12.’ Best Hotel Restaurant (Accommodation Division)
Promenade Café – Hyatt Hotel Canberra’.
The Cafe had no eggs any morning, so you had to see the Egg Chef, and the line up for her services was very long (of course). The coffee was bitter and service indifferent and self indulgent, like they were doing you a favour by being there!

These awards are like the Oscars – the industry patting itself on the back.

Belco snub?

Transit Bar???

Seems fair. Kremlin Bar has done well, which is deserved.

Before people pipe up, it should be explained that I believe the only ones able to be considered actually have to members of the AHA.
