Shitting you not!? Why hate! Why don’t you add something constructive ? you don’t voice an opinion with that diatribe and or statements , what’s your alternative? List them, then remove yourself from being called upon for your stupidity ! King O’malleys commit a large amount of money annually to the local music scene, They are active AHA members so deserve to win ,your pot belly’s of the world and phoenix’s slide by and choose to reinvest their money into faux pieces of trash to decorate their venues and still have the cheek to charge you the same money for a pint as a King Omalleys who provide a clean safe facility. But hey there would be no getting through to you guys, you’ re rogue’s through and through….. Giggling your way into one liners

Congratulations on your award, enjoy it, but your over the top rant just reinforces my view. And as PM mentioned, local musos generally don’t talk about O’Malleys when discussing venues. Oh, and yes, I’m glad Mooseheads didn’t win either. Maybe they’re not a member of the AHA.

And I don’t recall where I mentioned hate? Can you point it out to me?

In addition I refuse to drink in pubs where their spokespersons (or apologists?) can’t correctly use an apostrophe.

Oh shoot me and shoot me down why don’t you, I was flying high with my rant till you came along bah humbug!!!

Actually XO, I do applaud the fact that O’Malleys has real bands, as opposed to the crap, or should i say tired and boring, sequenced duos and solos that the clubs serve up as live entertainment.

The more pubs with live music the better.

Of course, i still haven’t changed my mind about the award, but that’s life hey?

Thanks thumper for your sympathetic response, duly noted.

Everyone’s entitled to their opinions, and that’s what earlier posts have been, but I find XO_VSOP’s contribution to be over the top.

I mean, King O’Malley’s deserves to win because they’re active AHA members…? Just what does that entail? You’ve actually just denigrated the award in that, according to you, it isn’t about being the best entertainment venue.

Re a safe place, it isn’t dangerous, but I think you’ll find that there is more trouble at venues such as King O’Malley’s than the places you insulted.

And local music… There have been some original bands there, and cover bands are OK, but when musos I know speak of live music venues, they don’t mention King O’Malley’s, so you can hardly blame them when they express shock in the above posts. But hey, King O’Malley’s won a popular vote; at least Mooseheads didn’t win.

We know the awards are only open to AHA members, but well done to King O’Malley’s and the other winners all the same. It’s just a shame that some like XO_VSOP choose to create a negative atmosphere as a result of having a chip on their shoulder.

Very happy to see two of my favourites pick up gongs – congratulations to the hardworking local proprieters of Knightsbridge and Rubicon.

As for best live music venue, I go to several – ANU Bar, Transit Bar, The Basement, Bar 32 and The Phoenix.

But King O’Malleys. Oh dear.

It’s a shame that something so obviously wrong, detracts from the overall integrity of these awards and the other shining establishments that deserve their accolades.

Best Live Entertainment Venue: King O’Malley’s

You’ve got to be shitting me…

But good to see The George get a gong.

Realm is the other 5 star hotel. The one that picked up a bunch of awards for having a really wicked bar (Ostani is always great) and being the best place to hold a conference.

But I’m sure Hyatt is better overall. What with all those other awards it won…

Never heard of the joint.

I hope the Best Local Pub award does not have a customer service component.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the George and I have been going there on and off since it was first built. I particularly enjoy Sunday arvos outside with good music and a few speckled hens. But I must say almost every time I have been there recently, I leave feeling as though I have been an imposition on the staff rather than a welcome customer handing over good money for their wares.

and just enough categories that every establishment in Canberra gets a look in, wouldn’t want to upset anyone who paid to submit their entry

Is this just a case of ‘invent an award’ until there are enough to go around? As for the Hyatt, if ever a place traded on past glories it’s this place. Some less than desirable business practices and some very ordinary standards in food, organisation and accommodation make this the worst award on the list.

There is an award for 5 star hotel? Hmmm I thought the Hyatt was the ONLY 5 star in Canberra, so the win must be a surprise for them!
