ACT Policing arrested a 53-year-old Evatt man yesterday (Monday, February 7) for drug trafficking charges.

The man was arrested around 3pm yesterday by Criminal Investigations Drug Investigations team detectives.

A search warrant was executed on the man’s house yesterday afternoon, where detectives seized 14 grams of heroin, with a street value of $7000-8000. A vehicle and cash were also seized.

He was taken to the ACT Watch House and was charged with trafficking in a controlled drug. He will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning, where bail will be opposed.

So half an ounce of that shit is worth $7-8K? Then a packet the size of a sugar bag would buy my house with change left over for a new car. And half the sample is probably talcum powder or some other inert agent. No wonder it’s the root cause of most of the crime in our city.

Surely it would be better to regulate it, ensure product quality, provide it via the medical system as required, encourage people to stop taking it and provide every assistance to those who want to do so, and generally do everything we can to minimise its use while removing the profit incentive from the crims who are raking in the cash. Not original thoughts, I know, but they seem pretty good to me.
