This in from ACT Policing:

Detectives from ACT Policing’s Criminal Investigations team have arrested two juvenile males over the fire at the Kaleen Scout Hall which occurred on Wednesday November 24.

Around 2.15am ACT Fire Brigade and police were called to a report of a fire at the Scout Hall on Maribyrnong Avenue. The fire was extinguished and following an inspection by ACT Fire Brigade inspectors and AFP Forensics, the fire was deemed deliberately lit. The cost of the damage to the hall is approximately $200,000 and is likely to be demolished.

On Monday December 13 detectives executed search warrants on the homes of a 17-year-old and 16-year-old male, seizing evidence.

The 17-year-old was arrested later that night, charged with arson. He will be summonsed and will face the ACT Children’s Court at a later date.

The 16-year-old was arrested on Tuesday December 14 charged with accessory after the fact and aid/abet arson. He has also been summonsed and will attend the ACT Children’s Court at a later date.

The problem with these idiots, sorry, kids, is their parents who trot out the usual “oh, my little Johnny wouldn’t do anything like that.”
Bullshit. They or their parents pay for the damage or the next attempt is on their own home. Sorry, shithole.

Perhaps they had incriminating images or video on their mobiles- gotta show your mates, otherwise it didn’t really happen.

Pfft! As if anything will happen to them, even if they were over 18 I’d be surprised if anything substantial happened.

How did they catch them though? What did they find in the searches that proved it was them?

Matches? Petrol? I can’t think of anything that would give them away though.

All these $50 fines! What are we going to do with all the money?

Parents need to start taking some responsibility, send them the repair bill to start with!

Bimberi will welcome them with open arms.

Bound to be trouble when there is arson around.

Well done, those coppers.

No doubt the little angels will be told they’ve been naughty boys and sent to bed without their Big Macs and Fries.

This should be interesting to follow…

charming little pieces of work aren’t they. let them pay off the cost of damages for the next 30 years…

Arson, Scout Hall, Vandalism- these guys won’t be resting easy in their cells. There is even less tolerance for fire bugs nowadays, I’m certain the public gallery will give these guys a warm welcome.
