The FREEDOM Festival is an annual national music festival that aims to raise funds and awareness of Amnesty International’s work to promote and defend human rights programs worldwide. This year’s FREEDOM Festival is raising awareness for Amnesty International’s global “Stop Violence Against Women” campaign. Specifically, this includes women’s rights to freedom from violence, fear, discrimination and torture, as set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The FREEDOM Festival is a product of the finest grassroots Australian activism. Sydney’s FREEDOM dance parties in the ’90s helped pioneer the dance-for-a-cause movement. In 2003 this inspirational foundation developed into the first national FREEDOM Festival in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra. In 2004, Perth and Adelaide joined the party, and with Brisbane and Hobart signing up for 2005, the FREEDOM message will ring loud across seven cities.

The Freedom Festival in Canbera this year on Sunday 25 September is happening at Tilleys Devine Cafe and will be featuring Ursula Rucker (Philadelphia, USA), Ben Mono (Munich, Ger), Jah’licious (Auckland, NZ), Bec Paton (Sydney, Aus) with support from fine Cnaberra locals including Mikah Freeman, Ashley Feraude & Cris Clucas and Somaya Langley.

The event will also be featuring the very talented VJs – Scott Morrison, Paul Mosig, Josh Wodak, and Rachel Peachey.
