The Canberra Times reports that ANU’s 2010 revenues were around $1.02 billion, moving it into the rare air of Melbourne University, Sydney University, the University of Queensland, Monash University and the University of NSW.

The Australian National University’s outgoing vice-chancellor Professor Ian Chubb told a gathering of Canberra’s business leaders this week that the institution’s income for 2010 would be about $1.02 billion, reflecting growth of more than 75 per cent since 2001 putting the institution in ”exalted company”.

Professor Chubb also told the event, held by the Property Council of Australia, that the university was spending more than $700 million on capital works over five years to accommodate a 60 per cent growth in student numbers since 2001 and maintain its place as a world-class research institution.

Just in case you were wondering why there are so many cranes moving over Acton.

Half the revenue was raised from the sale of reserved carparks to students in the multistory complex.

Hey, that’s not bad, $500,000 from sales of carparks, or was that just hyperbole on your part?

It was an attempt to satirically bring to light the cost of parking issues on campus.. obviously lost on those who have never experienced it.

It’s an argument usually countered with ‘you should ride a bike’.
