The tenth monthly ANU Writers’ poetry night once again features an open mic, performance poetry and live music.

slam

This month’s slam has the loose theme of ‘nuclear’.

Competitors are awarded points according to the quality of writing, the delivery and the audience’s reaction. Pieces should be under three minutes and must be original.

The open mic at the start of the night provides poets a chance to read their and other poet’s work without restriction by slam rules to an appreciative and sometimes raucous audience.

Music provided by local folk duo Playing with Breasts.

Entry $3 – Free for performers.

does ‘slam’ offend you as opposed to poetry ‘reading’, are you going? have you been? I guess its suppose to indicate poetry that may be delivered in a more lively fashion, so metaphorically the words slam you. who knows astrojax.

should read ‘i am an island’

marooned, marooned!

i am an siland

i am an isthmus

i come from the bahamas

and i dont believe in xmas

sorry, but can someone enlighten me as to what a ‘slam’ is? does this have something to do with basketball?

or is it getting your poem and slamming it down on the table as in some perverse form of ‘snap’?

i never knew the gentle art of wordcrafting was a contact sport…
