Recently my lancer got 2 cylinders misfiring.
The car starts and drives but shakes really bad and stalls at red lights.
It should have something to do with the fuel injections or spark plugs?
I need a good & honest mechanic in Canberra.
Preferably reasonable priced ones too.
Any suggestions?
Can only recommend ones in Queanbeyan.
John Res, Gombars or Roger Kreft in no particular order. Suggest you ask for a diagnosis (which will cost you, I imagine) and ask them to contact you with cost of repairs before proceeding.
Gombars and John Res are close to bus routes in the event that you leave your car with them.
If you are anywhere near the Weston Creek area, Craig Webb in Holder. Works from home, knows his stuff & is very reasonable.
CWC Auto Services in Ainslie, behind the War Memorial. Great customer service, and they seem to be honest about what needs to be done with the car (I’m not a mechanic though, so who knows).
I have been using G&S Auto in Queanbeyan for anything to difficult to do myself. They are fantastic but can be booked up for a week or 2.
Also recently been using Commonwealth Motors Mitsubishi in Phillip with the new car, they have been fantastic, especially compared to all the rubbish dealers I used before that.
Mitchell Service Centre
when i had a car i used to go to john at dickson mechnical and muffler service – honest and reasonable, would source good quality second hand parts for me rather than charge the earth for new.
Lovebumps is an NRMA member, so earlier this year took our machines to the NRMA Motorserve in Tuggeranong. Primarily for the member discount.
They have the Falcon getting an extra 50km per tank than before (we had been going to John McGrath for years).
+1 For CWC auto services… I have two cars which I take there, plus you get a free courtesy car which is really useful…
I use a mob out in Mitchell, ACDC in Kemble Court. I’ve always found them good and they actually call you to talk about what the problem is and what you want to do about it.
We’ve been with Stuart Elliott at Spence for nearly 20 years. They have a reputation for being reliable and trustworthy.
Another vote for john at dickson mechanical and muffler, Very honest and kept my old subaru running flawlessly for years.
Brett’s automotive LPG in Mitchell. Good guy, knows what he is talking about, doesn’t make work up and charges reasonably. 6241 9959
Canberra Motor Works in Mitchell – honest and reliable and very reasonable.
Gas Tune Tuggeranong, I dont trust any one else with my SS Commodore… Joe and the boys really know their stuff.
Sounds like the same problem i had with my car, shuddering and stalling at lights and this is an auto car. It eventually died :S Anyways to get it fixed I went to Mark at Jamison Automotive in Egan Ct Belconnen. He is honest and doesnt over charge and always manages to fit me in if its an emergency.
Richard at Monaro in Queanbyan, Stephen Street, he is honest and good at what he does.
I have been taking my car to Dynotune in Belconnen for the last 6 years. They have always been honest and upfront with what work needs to be done, what work would be helpful but not necessary.
The prices have been slightly higher when compared to other places sales and honestly I have considered shopping around from time-to-time. However, personally I am prepared to play a slight premium for honest, reliable service.
Go to the Ampol servo at Lyneham. Ron’s been there for years, and he’s a trooper. Good work, they won’t do stuff that’s not needed, and they’ll actually take a minute to explain things.
I’ve been using A&D Automotive out at Fyshwick for years. Darren there has been really great, and has always been up front about what should be done to my car, and what I can ignore.
MD Automotive in Monash have been great.
Not exactly close to Belco, but worth checking out if you work Southside.
I can recommend Mazda Phillip if rude and dishonest mechanics is what you like.
harry’s auto care and steve kelo automotive in belconnen
both reliable and reasonably priced
Yes, Beserk, I agree. Years ago I bought a 2nd-hand Mazda and decided to take it to the dealer for a service. Less than a week later it broke down as the points hadn’t been replaced. NRMA got me going temporarily.
Went back to Slaven Mazda, told them what happened and asked them to fix it properly. They wouldn’t, but did offer me the points for free (which should have been included in the original service cost), and charged me to install them.
Never been back, and never will be. The local mechanic charged half as much, and did a much more professional job.
Mechanical care in Belconnen (park st), Tony is a great honest guy, highly recommended mechanic of ours for years.
Beau Lock Don’t know about that, he was supposed to service my car, from what I recall I don’t think he did anything, didn’t change a plug, when I had another mechanic look at it he said the radiator cap had not been taken off, so there you go, I was right, the smirks on their faces when I picked the car up and asked what had they done, Sweet FA, so no I would never go back there again.
I have been going to Russell at Fisher Car Care for years. My neighbours recommended him. He is honest, reliable, has kept my car going without a hitch and doesn’t charge like a wounded bull. I couldn’t recommend him highly enough.
