Any old-fashioned gardeners left?

I want a gardener. Not a landscape artiste. Not a Jamie Durie. Not a horticulturalist. Not an arborist. I want an old fashioned gardener.

I want someone who will come once a month and mow the lawn, pull up the weeds, cut back what needs to be cut back – and preferably take cash in exchange for a discount.

Do any such people still exist?

You can definitely try ian@chapmac.com

No discounts for cash because all his work is done by cash and a carbon paper receipt book (now that’s old fashioned!) but he’s affordable and very good.

I don’t know if the Grey Army still operate (retirees with a lifetime of experience in certain areas/trades). I used a Grey Army plumber once, fixed my toilet for a grand total of $30, and even checked all of my washers for free while he was there. Super polite and super service.

You want a gardener whose a tax cheat. Someone that people who are prepared to pay their way can’t compete with.

Who said anything about cheating the tax system.

There is nothing illegal in dealing with cash, it’s legal tender. Given there is a cost associated with operating a bank account it’s reasonable to expect a gardener to provide a slightly cheaper service if they don’t have the same level of overheads as other businesses.

Then why even mention it?

try my mate mike – email him at markthegardener@hotmail.com

I’ll do your gardens for you, I studied horticulture so i know the difference between a plant and a weed, the extra cash would be nice too.
Contact me at elkstencils@hotmail.com if your interested

Although I agree with you I must admit I had to pay a guy cash to do my lawns for a while.
Sometimes there are reasons for it, especially with the prices that places like Jims charge.
