Thinking of coming over from the coast to checkout the snow.

Is there any around Canberra, that will save me from travelling down to the snow fields??

Just want to show the missus some snow before the season ends.

Thanks for any replies. Cheers

Check the satelite images on Google Earth daily , they will show you when there is snow

(snigger)

In the mountains across the Brindabellas maybe. Last time I remember it snowing (heavily) in Canberra was 1987.

Give these guys a call http://www.corin.com.au/ They may have snow, but it won’t be the real thing and as ellik above stated, you may not even get in there if they’ve closed roads due to unsafe conditions.

Have fun.

Went on a snow hunt yesterday, all roads into Corin Forest and Brindabellas were closed. Got pretty close (spitting distance?) at Tidbinbilla, lots to see up Mountain Creek road. But none to touch for us; two 2 year olds somewhat hamper bushwalking, especially if it is actually snowing on you at the time. Two adults should be fine. Ask at the visitors centre on the way in – apparently rangers got to the snow on Thursday. Do you think they made a snow man?

Heaps of snow up in the franklin area but National Parks always close the gate way too early. Anybody know whats the deal with that? We used to be able to drive until there was snow, put the skis on and go from there. A couple of weeks a year the ACT had some of the best skiing in the country.

Was up there a couple of weeks back with the kids and there was a little snow on the road but not enough to make a snow man. We walked for kilometers thinking if the gate was closed the snow would be deep enough to be a problem for cars and therefor fun to play in. I’m sure the road would have been fine to drive to franklin car park without chains in a two wheel drive (at least earlier in the day). They didn’t even let us get as far as Aggi gap.

Very good Postalgeek.

As a rule the best bet for snow in Canberra is likely to be Corin Forest, but I have NFI if there is any snow there at the moment.

I was hoping to see a snow covered Brindabella range on my drive to work this morning. Alas, they were cloud covered instead!
