Take a look at Washington DC, the WW2 memorial, the pool of reflection and the Lincoln memorial for an idea of how spectacular such an avenue can look, all with the Washington monument overlooking the lot. The Vietnam and Korean war memorials off to the side enhance it even more.
ANZAC Parade, though nice, is no world beater. In the next ten years, Australia should start embarking on some truly spectacular tourist attractions because the more you travel overseas, the more Australia looks like a big country town with country town attractions.
Well that was 1 minute and 2 seconds of my life I’ll never get back…
‘swoth’? corps (with the ‘s’ sounded)??
while a nice little piece, what about the actual, like, memorials along its length that make it an attarction at all..? or mebbe noting that it is abutted by the war memorial? or… sheesh, harvyk1 +1.
ANZAC Parade is several tonnes of decomposed granite. Eeuurgh.
Oh yeah the memorials…
Wooohooo…. come visit the red patch of gravel! Sounds thrilling!
I agree that they have missed the point completely as well as mispronouncing “corps” as “corpse” and calling the lake a river. I like the symbolism of ANZAC Parade. The way that it connects the war memorial to the lake and parliament beyond. Sort of forever connecting our fallen with our elected representatives. Lest we forget?
The upgraded lights work well too – the uprights are reminiscent of rifle stocks and the lights themselves have a pith helmet look to them.
Certainly agree they could have mentioned more about the memorials along its length.
I remember watching an ANZAC Day parade in the very early seventies (as a 5 or 6 year old) and my dad pointing out the Gallipoli veterans (lots of them around then) telling me how important they were.
I love how she described its location. Through the city to the river. Stock footage + Wikipedia + cute presenter does not equal research.
Naomi is an attraction!
And, no I am not going to put up a youtube love video about her lol.
We all, except possibly one, agree that would be a bad idea!
