As a kid, growing up in Canberra in the 70’s and 80’s, I remember Commonwealth park as a pristine park, a place where families met on weekends for picnics, cricket on the green grass (throw a footy depending on the season), ponds galore and well manicured gardens. It was a part of Canberra that everyone could be proud of, and everyone looked after it. Last month I went wandering around with the camera. Its the ruins of what it used to be. The remnants of Florida, spray paint all over the grass where the next floriade beds will be planted. Most of the ponds absent of water. It’s a real shame. A mate of mine said the same thing a couple of years back and today was my first visit to the ponds area and I was saddened by what I saw. Is this the progression of Canberra into the “big city” stage. It’s a real shame.
