australia day fireworks

I’ve got to say last night’s fireworks was one of the bigger displays I can recall seeing (although I was reliably informed it’s not a patch on the Kentucky Derby).

We’ve had quite a few pictures sent in by readers (as always send your pictures in to images@the-riotact.com ), here’s the slideshow:

UPDATE: Michael has also sent in 12 minutes of video from the event:

There was a small hairy moment (as opposed to their cousin, the northern less hairy moment) where a firework went off a bit earlier than expected. Second barge from the left (looking from Regatta Point), a green one launched and almost immediately exploded. I’d estimate no more than 10 metres above the barge. The younger Duffbowl thinks she captured it on video on the iPod; will have a look and post if I find it.

I figured it was not worth the jail time and natural selection will wipe them out in due course… I hope.

LOL You’re a real optimist, eh! I suspect that some do-gooder paramedic would probably save their worthless arses, regardless of what they do! Natural selection is dead, but fireworks live on!

They were a little on the long side. I found myself thinking, “we could get out of the carpark early if we leave now”… I also began thinking about the cost of offsetting the carbon emissions before they finished. Then I thought about new flavours for ice cream for a while, and then they finished and we got in the exit queue…

Park at Reid CIT’s dirt carpark. No carpark hassles there. I am surprised (and glad!) how few people use it during events like this considering it’s location. It’s close to the underpass and you can either head towards rond terrace or regatta point. The only hassle I had last night was deciding whether to slow down for the kids running on to Parkes Way. I figured it was not worth the jail time and natural selection will wipe them out in due course… I hope.
