Anyone driving to Melbourne soon?

By 12 September, 2012

Hi fellow Rioters
I’m currently in Fitzroy, Melbourne, but my cricket bag is still in Canberra, and I’m not going to be able to get back to Canberra for a couple of months to get it.
I was wondering if there were any Rioters who would be able to find space for it in the back of [...]

Anyone driving to Melbourne with room for 2 small parcels?

By 5 March, 2012

Hi folks
We need to get two small boxes (about 40cm x 30cm x 15cm) of glass tiles transported from Red Hill in Canberra to Fitzroy in Melbourne.
Are there any Rioters heading this way in the next couple of weeks?
They are too fragile to trust to commercial removalists.
We’d be happy to make a [...]

Car detailing in Canberra?

By 17 January, 2012

The search function has let me down, so can anyone recommend a good car detailing place in Canberra?

Looking for a Good Property Manager in Canberra?

By 17 October, 2011

Looks like we need to rent the house out for a year or two, so looking for recommendations for property managers in Canberra.
Preferably ones who would notice if the tenants set up a motorcycle repair shop in the spare bedroom.
Any suggestions?

Selling Second Hand Books in Canberra?

By 8 September, 2011

I need to clear a fair few books out of the house.
Before going the St Vinnies/Lifeline donation route, I wondered if there are any second hand bookshops around which Rioters would recommend as a first port of call?

Recommendations for interstate removalists for a move from Canberra?

By 19 July, 2011

We are relocating and need to get a household full of stuff to Melbourne in a few months time.  Does anyone have any recommendations for good removalists?
(I realise that there is a certain counter intuitive quality to the question, in that those that have made a similar move are probably not reading RiotAct anymore, but [...]

Looking for the Cable Guy – House re-wiring for faster internet

By 17 January, 2011

As part of my NY resolution to improve my internet performance, I’m looking at getting my house wiring re-run by a licensed cabler.  (Yes, I know there are 6ooo other possible issues, but I’m looking at this issue first, as house is 35+ years old and I think has original wiring).
Can anyone recommend someone in Canberra [...]

Pool or Snooker Places in inner south?

By 4 January, 2011

Anyone know of somewhere where I could take the 15 year old for a quiet game of afternoon pool or snooker in the inner south?
Preferably not a biker hangout, if possible!

On the Hunt for Betel Leaves

By 12 October, 2010

Anyone know definitely (not, “why don’t you try an asian grocer”) where I can get these in Canberra?

Looking for a reliable Aquarian

By 13 September, 2010

Going away for a couple of stints over the summer, and I’m looking for someone reliable who can hand water a few plants and pots, and feed the fish.  I’m in the inner south.
Don’t know any idle youths in need of pocket money, so may need to go semi-pro.  Any suggestions?

All Bar Nun Goes South?

By 11 August, 2010

Rambling Ted couldn’t help but overhear a high decibel conversation at an adjoining restaurant table the other night which suggests All Bar Nun are looking to redevelop the New Star restaurant site at the Griffith shops into a two story nightclub.
If it goes ahead prepare for a full scale barney with the good residents [...]

My Weber is Looking a Bit Sad

By 14 October, 2009

With the promise of summer around the corner, I checked out the old weber kettle recently, only to discover that the a socket on the body of the beast into which one of the legs slots has almost come adrift….as the sudden collapse of said weber and the deposition of hot coals and chicken  onto [...]

Where Can I Find a Garret?

By 30 June, 2009

No, not the bald one with the extra “T”
I mean just a space where one can splash some paint around without stinking out Chez Nous… I gather M16 is really geared towards those with hopes (or at least pretensions) of becoming commercially viable.
Anyone know where else one can find a space to indulge whenever [...]

Chief Justice Higgins and bail decisions

By 15 May, 2009

So we now learn that the standover man at the centre of the alleged kidnap incident in Kambah the other day had been released on bail only hours earlier.
He had originally been arrested on what the Crimes describes as a “two day rampage of kidnapping and extortion”, in company with the well known RA [...]

CAT EMPIRE @ the Royal Theatre

By 2 March, 2009

Got out to the “revamped” Royal Theatre last night for the Cat Empire, supported by Paprika Balkanicus.  Quite a piss poor turnout, possible a third full, but obviously many possible attendees out at Corinbank.  Hadn’t see the Empire since a red hot show 18 months ago in Adelaide, and my take was that their musicianship [...]

Never Mind the Airport, Where Are the Planes?

By 5 January, 2009

One only really gets a proper appreciation of Canberra’s place in the world when one tries to get out of it.
In looking at getting from Canberra to Osaka and back in October it really brings home what a backwater we live in.
I am long resiled to the fact that the capital of Australia doesn’t [...]

Live Gigs for Young Uns?

By 24 September, 2008

School holidays approaching, and I’d welcome suggestions from RA regulars as to where in Canberra I could take my almost-13 yo budding bass playing son to see some live music.
(He has just discovered that the Led Zepplin CDs -and flat blacks- in the old man’s collection aren’t that uncool after all).
Can he get [...]

New flight paths opened for Canberra Airport?

By 22 February, 2008

From about 5 am this morning (don’t know exactly as no clock in bedroom) a series of flights went low over my humble (lower) Red Hill abode…this hasn’t happened before (and no it wasn’t the Careflight helicopter, they always detour round my place since I got useful with the .303)….What gives, is it just the [...]

Lazing on a Sunny Afternoon

By 16 February, 2008

Looks like this Sunday will be perfect weather for a late afternoon drink in the fresh air with friends…where would Riotacters recommend as the place to be for a glass of something nice to watch the day slip away….

Best Canberra gigs

By 7 February, 2008

The combination of a bottle of Pikes Riesling and listening to the Kinks has got Rambling Ted in a reflective mood…not as yet disturbed by the ferals in the Red Hill flats rehearsing the fight scene from Romeo and Juliet…..
And he thinks, what are the best gigs ever in Canberra…?
his picks?  Well Jackson Browne and [...]
