Avoid Glenloch Interchange for the next...year or so

With the work on the southern end of the GDE well and truly underway, I was wondering the other day how they were going to avoid massive, long term traffic disruption. I now have my answer: they aren’t.

ABC advise us to avoid the place from Dec 11 for the next 12 to 15 months or so. The GDE website also sports some pretty PDFs showing which circuitous route you’ll be taking to get wherever you’re going for the next little while. Enjoy.

I really hope they’re not closing that bike path – it was going to be my solution to the traffic problem.

You get my vote, Thumper 😉

now that they’ve rebuilt the bike path through there, will they close that up as well?

Thumper: that’s more like it. Sane planning for a sensible tomorrow. You’ve got my vote.

Alright, so it’s going to be a pain in the ass (for me included). Short of building more roads at huge cost, though, I’m curious what people would have them do – I’m seeing plenty of bitching (perhaps not unreasonably), but no actual alternatives being proposed.

ha ha ha ha. I love this place. Coppins Crossing to Hill for me!

what a bunch of skull f**kers

oh awesome.
both directly affect me. and I can’t really go any other way, without going down belconnen way/barry drive, and that road shits me to tears. Way too many traffic lights that are always orange or red, for my liking.

Add to this the recent announcement of the way past overdue upgrading of the Airport approach roads (Pialligo Ave, Fairbairn Ave and Majura Rd), slated to start late Jan/early Feb 2007 and we are looking at traffic hell (well, by Canberra standards anyway) for a while.

can’t we just send the traffic jams back to Gunghalin? this GDE has done nothing for me except cause problems, and I demand that this change immediately!

I was wondering much the same thing myself, many thanks for the info.

Holy crap. Maybe I should quit my job to avoid all this driving. Oh hang on, I’ll have to drive the kids to school if there’s no local public school anyway.
