I’ve been looking to take the missus to a bed and breakfast somewhere close by (preferably with a swank restaurant) and keen for some recommendations.
There appear to be any number of places around Bungendore, but they’re all self-rated, and the majority seem to have some pretty scathing reviews online.

Gooromon Park has what looks like nice accommodation. The chef from the restaurant appears on 666 a lot talking food. I can only vouch for their morning tea though.

How about hiring a beach place for the weekend (or better sill, a couple of days during the week, if you can manage it) and taking a hamper of lovely things instead, and wine you usually wouldn’t buy?
After Straya Day it should become less crowded at the beaches.

Oh yeah…+1.0E6 for Schonegg. I spent a very happy weekend there last year with my wife. Can’t recommend it highly enough for a local getaway from it all.
When it comes to digital radio, the sound is better, but the reception is worse than FM. More transmitters are required before I think digital radio will become widely used.

We stayed at The Globe Inn in Yass [http://www.theglobeinn.com.au/] a couple of years ago. Nice historic building, various options for meals around the town.

David and Jenny Kilby’s B&B set up in the old train carriages is really good. Close enough to Murrumbateman to have dinner at Shaw’s, David will serve you a lovely breakfast and he’s a very entertaining and genial host. Browsing his memorabilia is a real highlight.

Ms Thumper and I spent a couple of nights last spring in the Southern Highlands at Milton park.
Expensive yes, but absolutely wonderful old heritage building with superb grounds and gardens, a pool, spa, and an lovely old bar.
Completely luxurious and just wonderful.
