Bees dropping from the trees...?

The last two days I have been finding a huge amount of bees dying on my back path. They seem to be feeding on a banksia, which has not been sprayed in any way. It is in proximity to a quince tree which I do spray with Rogor, but that has never caused this problem before. The quince is now long past flowering so there’s nothing for the bees to see there either.

My main concern is for the dog who’s going to find himself with stung feet if we’re not careful, but I wondered if anyone else was seeing this, or had any idea what might be happening?

I noticed this happening around a banksia next to our deck. As I watched one day, two nectar feeding birds landed in the banksia and as they were sipping the nectar, the birds snapped at the bees and tossed them away. Up until then, I could never figure out why there were dead/dying bees lying around. Perhaps this could be what’s happening in your yard.
