Our Chiefly leader has proudly announced that the $9 million Belconnen Arts Centre is starting to look the business down on Emu Bank at the end of Benjamin Way.

“Local residents will notice the new centre is taking shape with cladding and roofing now enveloping the steel structure and the foyer and gallery taking shape,” Mr Stanhope said

“Stage one works – to be completed this year – include a visual arts gallery, large foyer, dance studio, two classrooms, café and surrounding landscaped areas for outdoor festivals, concerts and major events.

It’s certainly in a beautiful spot.

With the centre expected to open in the middle of the year they’re looking for bookings. If you’ve got something you’d like to put on there contact the Belconnen Arts Centre Development Manager, Ms Hannah Semler on 6205 8712.

Wouldn’t it have been a better idea to have found out who was going to use this BEFORE building it?

Another wad of public money down the tubes to subsidise the “art” of …who… exactly?

grump @#4 – big enough for another futsal slab. Outdoor, indoor soccer – only in Canberra!

Outdoor festivals and concerts? Better get the structure up before the residential development on the other side of the lake is finished.. I’m sure the new onwers/residents will have something to say about excessive noise. 🙁

Events at the UC get enough complaints from Kaleen residents as it is.

Not to mention the new 18 story development just down the road..

had another look – maybe 3 to 4 tennis courts size area for these “festivals, concerts and major events” – not too ‘major’ then!

dunno where all this land is for the “surrounding landscaped areas for outdoor festivals, concerts and major events” – not much room either side and minimal onsite parking???
