Best of Canberra - creative markets

I have to say, the most recent Handmade Market was stellar. Spread through the two halls at Exhibition Park, the setup was much more cohesive and there were some really great stallholders. I’m looking forward to the next one.

Hustle and Scout/The Forage is also really great – I believe they have an event coming up before Christmas as well. Well worth a look.

Just going to have a bit of a whinge here, the fact Canberra is well known for Floriade and the Old Bus Depot Markets is a bad thing. Our city has so much more to offer than these stale and overrated offerings.

Not a market as such, but the Art Not Apart festival was very enjoyable.

I haven’t been to Handmade markets for a few years, but like most markets there’s a lot of hit and miss. And, for some stall holders, I wouldn’t be putting too much faith in the term “handmade” if that’s important to you. Although maybe that’s been tightened up in recent times.

This is probably a “Best Of” you need to run over a full month.. in my opinion the best markets in town aren’t even on this weekend.

My vote goes to Hall Markets, it’s been staple of the area for over a decade and has such a variety of goods that you’d be hard pressed finding something you weren’t interested in.

I was at the Old Bus Depot Markets this past Sunday and I have to say I was unimpressed. I used to love going for the food, but after buying my warm apple cider from the juice man, I was content going home after that.

Handmade Markets for me – love them!
