Best of Canberra - Fresh sandwiches and rolls

rustic black forest ham sandwich

I rarely buy my lunch when I’m at work during the week. I almost always take my lunch with me, but there are just some mornings when sleep is a bigger priority and there is no food in the fridge that I can throw together on my way out the door. On those days, I turn to my number one cheap lunch option – the fresh sandwich or roll.

This week I am looking for Canberra’s best fresh sandwich or roll. My kind of sandwich is big, freshly made, full of fresh salad fillings and made with good quality bread.

For me, a good sandwich is all about the bread. I’m not fussy when it comes to the type of bread, I like most and can even appreciate a good ol’ loaf of white at times. In my opinion, if the bread is nice and fresh you are more than halfway to a delicious sandwich or roll.

But no matter your taste in bread – white, wholemeal, multigrain or otherwise – I want to know who makes your favourite fresh sandwich or roll in Canberra?

Always enjoyed at Cafe D’Lish!
+1 for them

Blue olive cafe would be my pick as well. Fresh breads, great staff .

I’m also voting for D’lish in Deakin. It’s been a while, but their sandwiches are memorable!

+1 for Cafe D’Lish – when I lived in Canberra, their Persian (I think!) was my go-to. With a vanilla slice, of course.

Blue Olive. I;m not sure if they still have the same pumpkin bread from way back in the day. That stuff was the shiz!

And as strange as it may seem you’ll be hard pressed to beat the value for money of the sandwiches from The Snack Shack in Fyshwick.

They’re far from gourmet, but their ham and salad sandwich is as honest as the day is long, packed with filling, very good bread (I usually get wholegrain) and all for $5.50.

Outstanding value!

Dobinsons for one of their foccacias, Autolyse for sandwiches.

Bec, I completely agree that the secret to a good sandwich is the bread. For that reason, Autolyse gets my vote this week.

Say what you will about the inconsistent service and (occasional) long wait times, but they make a damn good sandwich.
