Perth motorcycle rider Steve Andrews has invited fellow riders from all over Australia to join him in this year’s Black Dog Ride to raise awareness of depression and support for the Black Dog Institute in Sydney.

Last year three riders from Canberra signed up for the ride. I actually made it for the entire 8,000kms and dedicated a blog to the adventure including three videos at dazza.id.au. This year it looks like there might be 5 of us from the ACT and around 200 riders. There’s still time to sign up if you want a great adventure and to help out a lot of people dealing with depression and mental illness.

I went through the whole nasty depression thing during the final stages of my first marriage. I wouldn’t wish it on anybody. Well, except maybe for a few arsehats….

In any case, good work in the service of a very worthy cause. My hat is off to you and your mates.

Hope people had a chance to participate in Lifeline’s Stress Down Day today. Love the idea of travelling and challenging the stigma around depression being a weakness rather than an illness (especially for men).

Fantastic effort for a great cause. Good luck to all of you – and ride safe!
