Brumbies starting side named for Saturday night

The Brumbies have published their pretty damn exciting team roster for the first game of the season against the mighty Queensland Reds:

The University of Canberra Brumbies have made just one change to the starting side which defeated the ACT XV last Friday night, with Henry Speight sliding onto the wing and Joe Tomane to the bench.

Speight came from the bench last week and made a positive impact against the Force in Darwin. He was the Brumbies and Australian Conference top-try scorer in 2012 and one of the club’s best finishers.

Nic White is starting and we’ll have to see how Matt Toomua goes at pivot (too much aimless kicking last season for my liking).

So relieved the Brumbies don’t play Drugby Union!

It occurs to me now that the reds have a devilish fast back three, hope Clyde’s got the toe to catch them!

jeez rathbone’s going cheap in fantasy football!

Moggy’s got a kick, and can take under the high ball.

Rather useful traits at fullback to some!

In 2012 Mogg was the star pupil in pointless kicking class before eventually writing his thesis on kicking out on the full from outside your 22. It’s a shame because he undoubtedly has talent, it’s just that you only see it for a few seconds per season. I’d love to be eating my words come 9:30 Saturday but I’m rarely wrong.

Good side, but gimme Coleman at FB over the woeful Mogg any day of the week.

I’m surprised Lealiifano hasn’t been picked at 10 as he looked on his way to a Wallaby cap until he got injured. Perhaps he prefers playing at 12?

Toomua is still a solid option though.

I thought that guy Toomua only played about 30 mins last season?
Do you mean the other guy who came in as 3rd choice..Holmes?

Toomua played a bit at the start of the season. kicking aimlessly mostly IIRC.

The team really went up a notch when Christian went to ten after toomua’s injury. But i’ll concede that might be the team getting their groove on more generally.
