I’m looking for suggestions for dishes which would be appropriate for a dinner to commemorate the 10year anniversary of the Canberra bushfires this Friday, 18 January.
While the obvious thing may be to take the family out to Smoque, I figure they’ll be crowded and it should be possible to produce something creatively appropriate. Shouldn’t be any shortage of amusing suggestions, so go for it…
Meant to say that this is intended with absolutely no disrespect to those who suffered from the loss of life and property on that dreadful day. It is intended as a remembrance and simply as a way of marking the day.
Egg yolk ravioli with burnt sage butter.
Well, the first thing you should do is tell them that is no danger of you preparing dinner for them tomorrow night.
Crème Brûlée (burnt cream) for desert of course.
Restaurant on Red Hill.
Chargrilled lamb. Or for those of a more political bent, lambs to the slaughter.
Smoked salmon?
Must resist overwhelming need to make BBQ references …….. must resist
Something with pine nuts.

I recall a cafe in Bondi that used to advertise on it’s blackboard “Brulee of the day”. Always made me giggle as they obviously didn’t understand, (or care) that they were in essence offering a ‘burn of the day’
S’mores
Shocked that anyone here knows about S’mores! An American campfire favourite.
