ACT Policing executed a search warrant on a residence in Ngunnawal early yesterday evening (April 18) where on arrival they located a suspicious package.

ACT Policing General Duties members cordoned the area and requested the Specialist Response Group (SRG) Bomb Response Team to attend.

As a precaution residents in the area were notified and informed by police to evacuate whilst the SRG Bomb Response Team rendered the package safe at around 5.15am.

The residents who were evacuated have been allowed to return home.

ACT Policing would like to thank residences for their co-operation and understanding. Investigations are ongoing.

Ok so reading this reminds me that not too long ago there were multiple explosions heard on the north side a couple weeks ago – it was heard by many man residents of the Gungahlin area, yet nothing ever posted about it from AFP or the like… is it related??? Someone getting ready for a bigger Boston-like experiment????

Which man residents? No woman residents heard it?

Oh and see how just one question mark makes it a question? Tip for young players.

Anyone know what happened in Ngunnawal last night (11th july)? Lots of Police about, Amagula Ave Closed off, etc?

The Canberra Times is now confirming that the bomb squad did detonate the package and that it wasn’t a bomb.

And now the package has been vaporized they will never know what it contained.

I suspect they know exactly what it was, hence their decision to detonate it.

If they knew it wasn’t a wasn’t a bomb then, why did they “render it safe” (destroy it)?
I suspect they didn’t have a clue what it was and that’s why they zapped it.

I suspect you don’t have a clue about explosives.

I reckon I know a lot more about explosives than most people do but you are the expert so please carry on and tell us your story.

Maybe the police are writing their media releases on a Galaxy Mini set to automangle?

Do they get their kids to write these press releases?

I was also wondering if detonate is the right word for when you blue up a not bomb. I’m going to detonate the front doorbell and then I’ll detonate the dog! They aren’t explosive so…

This.

Why did they render it safe? Because it was dangerous. Not all explosives are in the form of a bomb. Take that as you will.

Was it a crabs fart in a jar?

Why are they thanking houses and not the residents?

The odd thing is that they actually got it right in the previous sentence.Come on plod surely you would have realised by now that proof-reading is your friend.

Move along, nothing to sea hear…

The spelling in AFP media releases is getting wurser all the time.

The spelling is fine…their use of certain words? Not so good…

Both “residents” and “residence” sound almost the same. It’s the spelling that is the problem.

They are, as Borat would say, ‘retired’.

“But who would bomb Ngunnawal?” Maybe someone from the majority of Canberrans who voted for a Liberal ACT government but were thwarted by idiots in Gungahlin and Belconnen who let everybody down by returning three Labor members and only two Liberals.

What a load of pompous tripe, go stomp and whinge somewhere else, cry-baby.

Why not nuke that festering cesspit of chardonnay socialism and latte liberalism, the inner-north, for returning a greens candidate. I’m certain that the Manic Monkey Cafe of Inner-Urban Nirvanaville that Barnaby Joyce keeps referring to is somewhere in OConnor.

My strongly held belief is that anything that Barnaby Joyce disparages must be good, worthwhile and deserving of support.

Not that anyone would want to keep spouting inaccuracies? Some 41 more people Territory wide voted for the ACT Liberals as compared to ACT Labor.

Meanwhile, 23,773 voted for the ACT Greens, 12,065 of which were in the Molonglo electorate and some 4,966 of which were specifically for Shane Rattenbury.

But of course, lets disenfranchise those 23,773 electors and their wishes (one assumes that most of them would have preferred a Labor Government to a Liberal Government considering how Zed spoke aboput the Greens post-election) and instead ensure that the 41 person “majority” of the Liberals is put into power.

Chardonnay is often awful, don’t you find? Sauvignon blanc socialism is much nicer.

Seeing as you clearly don’t know what a majority is:

Majority: The number by which votes for one candidate in an election are more than those for all other candidates combined.

You’re welcome.

yessss, I hate it when our efforts go un-noticed

We are kingmakers, kneel before us petty earthlings

I might be ignorant of bomb disposal tactics but could they not have done that off site and saved many residents the hassle. Doesn’t say which street. As a resident of Ngunners I’m keen to know.

You seriously want them to move a suspected bomb?

Go watch Hurt Locker and come back to us eh?

Bomb goes off in Ngunnawal…….does $63 worth of improvments.

The Canberra Times is now confirming that the bomb squad did detonate the package and that it wasn’t a bomb.

So residents reported a loud bang at 2:30 am and police couldn’t confirm whether the item was detonated by the bomb squad? Who was it then, wylie coyote!

So… the nearby residents where asked to vacate their home for the whole night, from early evening when the package was spotted all the way through to 5:15am when police “rendered the package safe”?.

Damn.

But who would bomb Ngunnawal? Anyone with taste.
