Canberra ‘Entreprenerds’ Make Big Deal About English

CANBERRA. Two of Canberra’s leading online entrepreneurs — or entreprenerds — yesterday agreed to terms on the sale of the popular English language learning website Write Better English.

A former National Telstra Business Award winner, Troy Simpson (Serenson Pty Ltd), founded Write Better English in 2007. At first, the site was just a hobby. But now the site has become an extremely powerful tool for marketing directly to the 1 billion people worldwide who are looking to improve their English skills.

Excited about the deal, director of eReflect Software Pty Ltd, Marc Slater, said: “I had been keeping my eye on Write Better English for a while. When Troy hinted that he was looking for a career change, I took my opportunity. Finally, yesterday, he relented, and I made him an offer for Write Better English that he evidently couldn’t refuse.”

Write Better English is a perfect fit for Slater’s suite of online learning tools, including the popular vocabulary-building software Ultimate Vocabulary, and equally popular spelling improvement software Ultimate Spelling and speed reading software 7-Speed Reading.

Troy is also excited about what the deal means for him. “I plan on starting a small but growing fund to kickstart for myself a brand new career, a career that I know Marc and other business owners in Canberra also support”, Troy says.

And Troy is not vacating the English learning field completely, yet. He still has to keep happy 70,000 Facebook Fans of his fast-selling book, Funny English Errors (www.funny-english-errors.com). And he has two more English-related books that are almost ready, one with local “For Dummies” author Denise Sutherland and another with renowned Australian illustrator Virginia Gray.

But when pressed about this bold career move Troy and Marc keep hinting at, Troy is coy, saying only: “My name is Troy. I’m from Canberra. And I’m here to help.”

The sale of Write Better English also includes Troy’s half-share in www.research-one.com.au, which formerly hosted Troy’s multi-award winning legal research firm Research One Pty Ltd.
