Canberra Centre Parking Machines - Out of Order

When you consider how much the Canberra Centre must be earning from its paid parking in the city, I find it incredible that they seem incapable of keeping their money spinners in working order.

I guarantee that on at least 50% of visits to the centre, one or more machines are not working. I can only think that the amount of time spent wandering around looking for a working machine must add to their revenue. Certainly there is no consideration of customer service.

I’m not surprised, because you still have to pay to exit and not fixing them all the time keeps profit margins high. I’m amazed at the lack of preparedness one can have after being in a queue for 5 minutes, then proceed to fish around ones purse for as many 10c and 20c coins as possible to pay……

Maybe its just me, I just throw silver shrapnel into the big money tin I have and bank it every few months for a few hundred dollars which comes in handy and I never miss having heaps of 5, 10 and 20c coins!

Secure Parking will not update the machines unless their lease is extended (what I’ve heard from a staff member of the Canberra Centre Car Parks)

Hopefully new machines should be identical to CityWest Car Park with the reusable token technique (ChipCoin)

Hopefully any other operator who installs chip coin machines doesn’t follow City West’s lead, and allows credit cards to be used to pay for parking… Considering City West is one of the most expensive places to park, not allowing credit cards when the machines are equipped for it really sucks!

add to that the fact that a while back they removed some machines were removed, so one arrives at the level at which they parked their car to find they must go off to another level to find a machine [hopefully in working order] then retrace one’s steps to the car… bloody appalling ‘service’.

+1

Was there today – 2/3 parking machines out of order. About 25 people lined up. Took ages. We probably all paid more because of the wait.

+1 I was there too.

Downstairs from the fruit shop next to Supabarn there is a machine (far left) that has been out of order for what seems like a year now. I honestly don’t know how it’s possible to not be able to fix that machine for that long, unless they just don’t want to fix it.
