Canberra disability advocates get national recognition

The contributions of Canberrans Ann Procter and Huy Nguyen to the disability sector were acknowledges and celebrated last night at the National Disability Awards where Ms Procter was a joint recipient of the Lesley Hall Award for Lifetime Achievement in Disability and Mr Nguyen received the Emerging Leaders Award in Disability.

Ms Procter was recognised for her outstanding commitment to improving outcomes for people with disability over a significant period.

Mr Nguyen was awarded for his leadership qualities, raising awareness and improving outcomes for people with disability.

The National Disability Awards are part of celebrations in the lead up to International Day of people with Disability (I-Day) on 3 December 2013.Canberrans Ann Procter and Huy Nguyen have been recognised for their contribution to the disability sector at the National Disability Awards overnight Minister for Disability Joy Burch said today.

Ms Procter is a joint recipient of the Lesley Hall Award for Lifetime Achievement in Disability and Mr Nguyen received the Emerging Leaders Award in Disability.

“Congratulations to Ms Procter and Mr Nguyen on being recognised nationally for their contribution and dedication to people with disability,” Ms Burch said.

“To have two Canberrans receive this acknowledgement shows what fantastic achievements are being made in the disability sector in the ACT.

“I know both recipients have worked tirelessly to improve the lives of people with disability – Ms Procter has dedicated her life to it and Mr Nguyen is a pioneer and leader in this field.”
