For those of you who love some TEDX action, you’re in for a treat.
We figured why wait until later in 2013 to have another TEDxCanberra event, so we’ve been working behind the scenes for a couple of months on something for you – the TEDxCanberraSalon 2013!
Returning to our original venue, the National Library of Australia, the Salon will be a mid-week, afternoon event with a handful of presenters (watch for an upcoming announcement about them – they’re going to be great) and a few TED videos with a focus on matters of preparing society for the future. We’ll be touching on topics of climate change, technology, philosophy and more.
They’ll be announcing who the actual presenters are when registration opens at 9:30AM 2 March.
Cue ABC 666 love-in with barely a sentence uttered without the word TEDx in it for the next millennium.
This is wonderful! I absolutely love TED talks!
TED – a monstrosity that turns scientists and thinkers into low-level entertainers, like circus performers.
What is this?

So, like a geeky poetry event then?
Why shouldn’t there be a TED here in Canberra? We have an amazing proportion of people doing incredible work in science, policy, IT and any number of other arenas. And plenty of people willing to learn from them.
I really do not get the anti-TED sentiment. Inspiring people sharing discoveries, ideas and projects that in turn inspire others to do great things. Talks like these:

Yep. Sounds like something that should be discouraged. Or at least disparaged. The same way we dumped on smart kids at school.

There is very little point in having big ideas if you don’t have the ability, desire, or forum to share them.
