(NB: A Hackerspace has nothing to do with “unauthorised hacking into other people’s computers”.)

I wanted to let Rioters know that we are starting a Canberra Hackerspace. A Hackerspace “can be viewed as an open community lab, workbench, machine shop, workshop and/or studio where people of diverse backgrounds can come together to share resources and knowledge to build/make things.” (Wikipedia.) It’s for people who are interested in making, modifying, and generally being creative with technology.

There are already Hackerspaces in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. For Canberra, it’s early days so far. We have a website: http://www.makehackvoid.com/ (see also the Forums there.) We had our first meetup on Tuesday (minutes on the web.)

If anyone reads this and is interested, please take a look and join the web site. The next meetup is this Tuesday, 6:30pm at Wig & Pen pub.

Space Needed

One important thing that we do not yet have is a physical space. We’re looking to beg/borrow/hire/rent/barter some kind of space. Anything from a garage up, short term or long term, at this point. If you know of something, please contact us via the web site, or email me directly: indogus at gmail dot com.

If anyone is interested in this check out http://www.makehackvoid.com
They are set up in Downer and have lots of fun with lasers, 3D printers, computers, gadgetry, etc.

Hi guys, I know that this post is a little old, but we are looking to start a co-working space, and the Canberra Hackers would fit perfectly into it! Check out this article, and get in touch if you’d like to be involved!
