Four-Four-Two brings word that Canberra’s women’s soccer/football team has signed five more players, in time for the W-League season opener in Newcastle this weekend.

Apparently they still have space in the roster for more.

So how much interest is there out there for women’s soccer?

Canberra United is free to air tomorrow at 4pm – ABC1. has got to be more interesting than netball!!!

I will try and get to some of the games (however i am patiently waiting as i was due to have my first baby 2 days ago!), so not sure how many i will get to! But the Canberra community, and the women’s football community needs to go out and support the team. It will also show the FFA that we want a representative team for the ACT in the A-League.

I’ll be going to as many of the home games as I can.

According to Capital Football’s website there were 75 teams in last season’s winter competition. That included a Premier League division, 6 State League divisions and an Over 35’s women’s competition. There are also two women’s leagues running over summer. So there has to be at least 900 registered players and probably more.

And that is just the outdoor versions of the game. Women’s Futsal is growing very rapidly all over the country.
