hey i’m newly partial to canadian club with ice, dry and lime.

But aged single malt I like to treat with respect.

Good point, well made.

I stayed with some members of the Raj in Thailand (to mix a cultural metaphor) as a 19yo back-packing world-wanderer in 1985 and when we paused at 6 for drinks before dinner in the drawing room of the penthouse skyhouse, and I asked for a scotch and coke, I got a thousand mile smile and a, ‘I might just go and get one of the blends…’

That was pretty much my introduction to drinking single malts with the mix you describe, JB! Everything in context!

The next year in the Himalayas, a fellow traveller (only in the literal not political sense) introduced me to Glenfiddich and from then on in with anything above a Johnny Walker black, it’s straight up and maybe rocks if I’m feeling particularly non-compliant.

(An Irish man taught me on the coast of PNG to cover your drink with a coaster to stop the dilution caused by ocean breezes and overhead ceiling fans.)

But finally (the one you were looking for), I had something called Jameson’s with raw something something cola on the weekend. My jury’s still out, but I don’t know what was trying to do more damage to the other. Far too sweet for my palate. I will only buy me Jameson’s in the bottle on its pat from here on in.

Possibly, what is the Society’s position on ice (frozen water not crystal meth)

I’m a fan of two ice cubes in a single malt.

Count me out 🙂

scotch is correctly drunk with 2 parts scotch to one part still water.

Other whiskeys other things for mine.

Like those rules (of TS Eliot’s?) on writing: break all and/or any of these rules as they suit you. I personally think it rocks to boldy split infinitives. And occasionally even drop a little coke in with a blended whisky or whiskey. Personal choice only.

There’s this coming up on the 20th of November.

Care of The Scotch Malt Whisky Society Australia.

Tuesday 20th November – Canberra – Whisky Tasting
Venue: The Deck at Regatta Point, Barrine Drive, Parkes
Time: 6.00pm for 6.30pm
$70 Members/Partners; $90 Non-Members/Guests. Book online under Events.

I’m not a member, but I recall being given a card for this society almost 4 years ago now.

Who is responsible for me missing this post? Someone must be to blame!

Assuming there is a next one, I’ll be there.

Lagavulin is Scots Gaelic for makes unwanted mull(y) disappear. Corruption never tasted so smooth.

Did anyone go to the dinner?
