Shane Rattenbury has annoucned that SITA Australia has won the contract to handle our garbage:

A new contract has been awarded for the provision of domestic waste and recycling collection services in the ACT, Minister for Territory and Municipal Services, Shane Rattenbury, announced today.

“I’m pleased to announce that SITA Australia (SITA) has been awarded the contract to provide our waste and recycling collection services,” Mr Rattenbury said.

“The contract will commence 29 October 2013 and will run for the next 10 years. SITA will take over the regular collection of garbage and recycling bins from houses and apartments.

“SITA is a reputable company with in-depth knowledge of collection, transportation and waste processing gained through 40 years experience of waste management in Australia. They currently provide services to more than 56,000 commercial and industrial customers and more than 3.7 million residents each week across Australia.

“SITA currently holds contracts with the City of Brisbane, Penrith City Council, Campbelltown City Council and the St George Region of Council in southern Sydney.”

Mr Rattenbury said SITA was selected following an open market tender process and was chosen based on their value for money offer, technical capabilities and their overall capacity to provide services.

Sita do a lot of the commercial rubbish and recycling pick ups, and they are rubbish they miss bins every week, collect the wrong bins on the wrong days. I hope they do a better job with household pick ups

Agree. We would be lucky to get our commercial bin collected every 2nd or 3rd time. They are hopeless. Their customer service sucks, they couldn’t give a toss that a bin is full, overflowing and 2 weeks past its scheduled pickup. They are just woeful.

Good. Perhaps the new mob will not send me threatening letters about my neighbour’s bin.

Two comments.
I hope SITA trucks don’t leak hydraulic oil all over the roads like the Cleanaway ones and SITA is a European company so we see the Australian cringe in action again.

Well good, I hope SITA don’t misses our Recycle Bin collection like it happen to us 10 times in the last 12months with the current mob.

They do have a bit of experience with this, SITA-BFI are the folks who did the recycling collection through the 90s until Cleanway got the contract. I wonder who paid for the spiffy new trucks, bet Cleanway would be pissed if they just bought them only to loose the contract.

Love the way the whole press release totally misses mentioning the name of the old company.

I assume that most of the garbos will fi d jobs with the new mob… Any idea what local management staff might get the axe?

I’ve only just trained Cleanaway to remember to collect our recycling after missing it almost every fortnight for 18 months. Now I’ll probably have to start from scratch.
