The ABC informs that Canberras Martin Dent, 39, has triumphed in the Sydney City to Surf, becoming the first Australian to win the race in 11 years.

Yes it helps that there’s a pretty big sports carnival in China at the moment, but cudos regardless.

UPDATE: And OzChick informs us:

Second place in the women’s category went to unseeded runner Emily Brichacek from Canberra.

    Yay. Congrats, Emily!!

What makes it very hard to get up Heartbreak Hill is knowing that before I’ve topped the rise, Martin Dent and co. have already just crossed the finish line and the likes of Emily Brichacek are bearing down on it. No kick sprint on Campbell Parade for me this year, but I had just enough petrol in the tank for a lay-up victory slap of the finish line sign.

Still all good fun (of sorts) and there IS the rehydration process afterwards of course to highly commend.

The official times for the winning runners have been confirmed as 41:12 for Dent, 41:24 for Shelly, 47:18 for Lowe (first woman to finish) and 48:12 for Brichacek.

Congratulations! My mind goes weak at the thought of running that course, let alone the body.

Is there nothing public servants cannot do?
