The Capital Arts Patrons Organisation have announced a new partnership with the Canberra Museum and Gallery:

CAPO President Neil Doody today announced the Capital Arts Patrons’ Organisation (CAPO) will mark its 30th anniversary this year by moving its popular contemporary art exhibition and auction to Canberra Museum and Gallery (CMAG).

CAPO provides a major source of support for local artists through their generous research, travel and cash awards. Funds are raised by donations and in-kind support from local business, ticket sales as well as by the sale of donated works of art through CAPO’s annual high-profile exhibition and auction.

“CAPO is very excited to be moving our annual exhibition and auction to what we see as Canberra’s premier regional museum and arts space. With CAPO turning 30, CMAG 15, and Canberra of course partying for its 100th, this year’s cocktail auction is set to be a real cracker!” Mr Doody said.

“This move will create an even more sustainable and prestigous event, and will expose the work of the artists involved to an ever broader audience,” he added.

“CAPO’s exhibition and auction is a perfect fit with our role in showcasing and supporting excellence in our region’s visual arts. I am simply delighted to welcome the event to Canberra Museum and Gallery,” said CMAG Director, Shane Breynard.

The CAPO exhibition and auction has previously been held at the National Archives of Australia and in 2012 at M16 Artspace in Griffith.

The week-long exhibition program highlights donated artworks and incorporates floor talks from arts professionals to assist buyers in making informed investments. It culminates in the CAPO 30 Auction, a cocktail event with live and silent auctions of donated artworks.
