The ABC has the happy news that the Canberra Capitals have started their WNBL campaign with a win:

Rachel Jarry starred with 19 points and nine rebounds for Bulleen, but an all-round team performance from the Capitals inspired the visiting side to an eight-point win.

Jarry and Elizabeth Cambage (14 points, nine rebounds) were the only Boomers to score in double figures but the responsibilities were shared amongst the victorious Caps.

“The visitors well and truly did the damage in the third quarter though, where they piled on 26-11 with a floorless shooting performance.”

“Floorless”, eh? I’m impressed! Must be bloody tricky to play basketball when there’s no floor.

(why do so many ABC Sports reports fail to mention the actual final score? Why do they insist on making me do arithmetic???)

Sports reporters pretend they can write for an audience that pretends it can read.

(With apologies to Pratchett, T.)

good to see our tax dollars at work here…seeing as canberrans subsidise the team salary, i think we should be happy?

i watched the game on ABC this arvo, really good game – impressed to see the caps remain competitive despite losing a few key players between seasons. from strength to strength hopefully!
