The ABC has a story on ActewAGL’s spot of bother after overcharging a mere 3,000 customers.

Worst of all the problems occurred with the Even Pay system favoured by the poorest in society.

If you think you’ve been overcharged the power and water juggernaut would like you to call their accounts hotline 13 18 86 (according to their website).

On our most recent power bill ActewAGL tried to charge us $2,500! Turns out they’d misread the meter and were trying to charge us for an extra 10,000 kilowatts. Thankfully the guy on the phone at ActewAGL was nice and didn’t make us get someone out to re-read the meters – he just reissued the bill with the reading we told him. But ye gods, seeing that amount on the bill made my heart freeze up.

It’s been going on all year, over charging, one minute their saying I have credit the next I owe them a large amount, they are just guessing the amounts. I asked for a print out of the last two years, I had to ring twice, finally I got it today after waiting at least 6 weeks, it showed a different amount, I actually don’t own them as much as I was told, as I’ve been paying them off, so I’m in credit now for almost ninety dollars, Pew!

Yeah great. don’t bother ringing today because their system is down. But you can work your way through the answering maze to have an operator tell you that.
