Chief Minister bitch-slaps Margaret's artistic judgment

“It appeared to have sentences of three words, every second word was an explicative, and it was really being yelled. My grandchildren were appalled”

Thus spake Margaret from Ainslie on Chief Minister’s Talkback on the ABC in relation to David Finnigan’s new play Oceans All Boiled Into Sky.

Chief Minister Stanhope, however, has had this to say:

“Oceans All Boiled Into Sky is another outstanding locally written and locally produced work,” Mr Stanhope said. “Taking the form of a live radio drama, it is a memorable production that gives a new twist to some familiar Canberra places. Like the Youth Theatre production, it is at times confronting in its message and its language.

Cop that Margaret.

(The CM also really likes The Messenger which I hear is good but hasn’t been slagged by a critical rainmaker like Margaret)

We come for the goss … oh, wrong website!

*chuckle*

We come for the ferrets.

We come to be appalled.

*grin*

We come for the content. We stay for the arrogance.

Ok, no probs, was just trying to urge care and caution. Diverging views can only thrive in hushed conversations and online fora – and hurrah for that!!

(although the ‘not likely I’ll care’ bit was a trifle arrogant)

Margaret is entitled to her opinions, as am I.

I’m looking at her artistic criticism, not her noise crusading, and as the Chief Minister saw fit to venture an opinion I’m seeing fit to provide context.

You’re welcome to not like that, but it’s not likely I’ll care.

I agree with GB – when Margaret becomes frustrated that she cannot enjoy her own home in peace and quiet, your response is to ridicule, patronise and humiliate her. It all seems pretty childish to me.

I have been a long time reader of this site, but was only driven to register so that I can comment on this item. Please, have a good think about it. A little bit of maturity might attach more credibility to your very worthy agenda of strengthening Canberra’s arts/cultural/social scene.

I think its about time to get over it. Demonising someone by repeatedly putting their name in the title is just childish.

CT tomorrow “Millionaires’ blog in spat with neighbour: Stanhope fuels the fire”.

And on Another Blog : “{insert real name of johnboy here} in one-sided scragfight – readers move to canberradross.com for ‘fair and balanced reporting’.”

PS Finnigan’s stuff is good — ignore the sideshow here, go see the actual play.

Will there be a rebuttal shirt?
